Is geothermal in your future?

As a green home builder, we are always wanting to keep up with emerging technologies that may help save money, improve comfort, and reduce our overall impact on the environment. During the never-ending process of learning about new technologies, geothermal has been the most intriguing. It is, without doubt, one of the most beneficial green technologies known today, and now, at Bear Creek Builders, we are able to provide you with this innovative technology.

By using a geothermal system that taps into the constant temperature of the earth, you can very efficiently heat your house in the winter and cool it in the summer. It is especially beneficial when the building envelope is very tight and well-insulated with high quality materials (such as Roxul), both of which we strive to achieve in all of our new homes. It is important to view a geothermal system as part of a highly efficient home, not just the end goal. Proper installation of insulation and proper air-sealing are much less expensive to install, and the money invested in these techniques can frequently be offset by a smaller geothermal system that costs less to install and operate.

We are now fully certified geothermal installers by the IGSHPA (International Ground Source Heat Pump Association), allowing you to take full advantage of the 30% tax credit the federal government is issuing through December 31, 2016. With this tax credit, 30% of the total cost for all components of a geothermal system and the labor to install them are given back to consumers as a credit directly off their total tax bill. With these incentives, the high upfront cost of geothermal makes sense, particularly during new construction, where a new furnace would be installed anyway.

If you’re interested in this new technology, but still not completely sold, we invite you to come take a look at one of our professional installations in the Adirondack park. This 3,000 sq. ft. camp is currently being heated during some of the harshest NY temperatures for less than $70 a month. Give us a call today!
